It’s entirely possible that the life of your school aged children has radically changed in that you may have had to transition them to doing their school from home rather than in person in a dedicated school location.
Setting up a good home school environment is fundamental to your school child doing their best in trying times — it can make the difference between the children succeeding and doing less well in school.
When your school aged children are in their home school environment, you’re going to want to make sure that they are as comfortable as possible — not the kind of comfortable where they take a nap, of course, but still good for them to be able to study and do their work.
You can just imagine that if your child or children are comfortable when they are doing their schoolwork, they will do better work.
One thing that you need to be aware of in terms of how your child or children do their schoolwork is that when they have distractions in their school environment, it is hard for them to concentrate on what they are meant to do.
By reducing the number of distractions from their learning environment, you are doing them a great service in enabling them to better learn what they need to learn every day.
Though we just mentioned not having too many distractions in the learning environment, it’s not a bad idea to take elements that you can to make their home school environment as fun as you can to encourage them to spend time there.
This doesn’t have to mean that you will make the school environment nothing but fun, of course — you can have elements of fun but still, keep it somewhat serious.
As your children spend a good amount of time sitting and doing things like studying or participating in their online classes, it’s important that they occasionally stand up and stretch.
If you make a dedicated stretch zone (if space permits of course) it will encourage them to take a break periodically and stretch out their arms and legs and not just continue sitting for hour after hour.
An alternative to a traditional desk, a standing desk asks that the user stands while using it.
Of course, it may seem like a lot to ask of a child, so you can look at desks that are convertible — they go from being a standing desk to a sitting desk.
Doing this for them gets them the best of both.
There are many ways that you can organize your child’s books and things related to school and color coding could be one of the best.
Children love the various colors out there and if they know, for example, that everything labeled blue is related to math and everything related to green is for their science class, it will be easier for them to find things.
Lastly, when you have things on your shelves it can be really easy to get them lost — so one solution that people find useful is to put them in baskets that go into the shelves.
Though it may seem counterintuitive as you will have something that is going into another thing that is holding a lot of smaller things, it makes sense as it’s easier to categorize baskets and then be able to know that a particular item is somewhere.
