Headwaters Painting helped sponsor and participate in a community fitness event called 24 Hours of Heroes put on by their CrossFit gym, Gifford Fitness, in New Brighton.
24 Hours of Heroes
This annual event is open to both members of their gym and anyone else in the community to help raise funds for The Alex House. The event consists of 24 workouts that start at the top of each hour (for 24 hours!). Each workout a participant signs up for is a marker for how much they should raise (for example, 3 workouts/raise $50 for each). You can sign up for any work out at any hour – Danie and Ryan participated in 3-5 each in the later evenings and very early morning hours. You will find participants running, rowing, box jumping or cheering on their peers at 2:00am! They even bring in the glow sticks to keep the energy and spirits up! The Owner of Gifford Fitness even takes it a step further and has completed every single workout (back to back) 2 years in a row.
The Hero Workout
Each “Hero Workout” Honors a person who has died serving our country/communities – a picture and bio is read before each workout begins as a reminder of who the workout was named after and why. The final and grueling workout of the event is incredible – “CHAD” a room packed with participants both tired, yet excited, working to complete 1,000 box step ups (with a weighted vest).
It was a collective effort to hit (and beat) the goal of $20,000 that went straight to the Alexandra House in Blaine, MN – helping to support survivors of domestic and sexual abuse. This was done through both monetary donations, as well as local businesses donating their services or goods in the silent auction. Danie and Ryan look forward to sponsoring and being part of this inspiring event as it grows and develops in the coming years!
